Accident of Мi-8MTV-1 in Republic Congo

On December, 18 in Democratic Republic Congo there was an accident of helicopter Mi-8MTV-1 of Airline "UTair" (UTair Aviation).It was officially declared by the press-service of Airline "UTair". At performance of scheduled flight by extent of 170 km on a route: settlement Goma - settlement Valikale at the time about 13.30 of Moscow time, in 20 minutes after take-off, in horizontal flight above the mountain area the crew under indications of instruments has fixed deviations in work of the main gearbox. They were accompanied by noise which is uncharacteristically for normal flight and increasing vibration. Onboard there were five members of crew and six passengers. In connection with development of a situation in emergency the commander of the helicopter Vladimir Zaharov has made the decision to make an emergency landing on a slope of mountain. During the landing to a slope of mountain the helicopter has overturned on a board, but due to highly professional actions of crew, has been stopped in half o meter from the breakage. The crew has organized escaping of helicopter’s passengers and has arranged prevention of his ignitions. In 20 minutes after the ending of the specified procedures, mechanic on a board Victor Borisov, doing in them active participation, has died for the obscure reason. Evacuation of people from the place of incident was successfully carried by helicopters of the Indian air group.One of passengers and the commander of the helicopter has received average traumas, but their life outside of danger. Other members of crew and passengers have received easy physical injuries and grazes. All victims appear the qualified medical aid. Investigation of aviation incident will pass under the direction of Interstate Aviation Committee. Chairman and members of the commission in the near future will take off on a place of event.The main gearbox ВР-14 installed on the helicopter, has passed major overhaul on Uralsk plant of civil aviation in Ekaterinburg in July, 2004, and to this machine was appointed the between-repairs resource 1000 flight hours and 8 years. An operating time of the main gearbox after last repair on the moment of event has made 752 hours.The air group of "UTair" Airline in Democratic Republic Congo works since 2003 year. The air group includes five helicopters Mi-8MTV-1 and two helicopters Мi-26. Flights are carried out in interests of the United Nations Organization. "UTair" is the largest supplier of aviation services for the United Nations Organization.
